Plenary meeting

  1. Chair: Prof. Klaus Kirch, ETHZ and PSI (klaus.kirch[at]psi.ch)

  2. Members: Members of the Association are (a) the particle, astroparticle and nuclear physicists holding a Master in physics and working for a Swiss institution, and (b) the Swiss PhD nationals working at CERN. Members that have retired from the active professional life or have acquired the status of Professor emeritus may be admitted as Honorary Plenary Members. Institutions may be admitted in the Association as Observers.

  3. Normal frequency of meetings: one meeting per year, including a science part covering the latest developments of particle physics in Switzerland.

  4. Next meeting: 25-26 June 2013 at Campus Sursee.

Board

  1. Chair: Prof. Klaus Kirch, ETHZ and PSI (klaus.kirch[at]psi.ch)

  2. Members: The professors with activities in experimental or theoretical particle, astroparticle and nuclear physics and the heads of the experimental and theoretical particle physics groups at Paul Scherrer Institute are automatically Board Members. Universities without activities in particle, astroparticle or nuclear physics may nominate one representative. Members that have retired from the active professional life or have acquired the status of Professor emeritus may be admitted as Honorary Board Members.

  3. Normal frequency of meetings: up to three meetings per year, one of them in conjunction with the Plenary meeting.

  4. Next meetings: 31 January, 24-25 June, 4 November 2013.

Prize Selection Committee

  1. In its Board meeting of January 2012, CHIPP decided to revise the Prize procedure and to set up a dedicated CHIPP Prize Selection Committee.

  2. Members: Prof. Gilberto Colangelo, Berne (gilberto[at]itp.unibe.ch), Chair; Aurelio Bay, EPFL (aurelio.bay[at]epfl.ch); Maurice Bourquin, Geneva (Maurice.Bourquin[at]unige.ch); Peter Truöl, Zurich (truoel[at]physik.uzh.ch).

  3. Task: To advertise the CHIPP Prize, to assess the applications and to select the prize winner.

  4. Former Prize winners: Michael Rissi, ETH Zurich (2008), Pedro Schwaller, University of Zurich (2009), Alexander Kish, University of Zurich (2010). Lesya Shchutska, EPFL (2011). Franz Herzog, ETH Zurich (2012).


European Strategy

  1. Existing strategy (2006): The European Strategy for Particle Physics. Swiss input to the European Strategy (2006): scientific input from CHIPP and science policy guidelines from the State Secretariat for Education and Research SER.

  2. Updating process 2011-2013: CERN has set up a Preparatory Group led by the Scientific Secretary of the European Strategy Session of Council (Prof. Tatsuya Nakada). Input will be provided through the European Strategy Group, composed of one delegate per Member State (CH representative: Prof. Klaus Kirch), an open symposium (September 2012, Cracow), and an all-hands meeting in January 2013. CERN Council is expected to discuss and adopt the strategy document in March 2013. Final approval will be given by a special European Strategy Session of the CERN Council in Brussels in May or June 2013, on a date to coincide with a meeting of the European Competitiveness Council at which European Research Ministers would be invited to take note of the updated Strategy.

  3. In its Board meeting of January 2012, CHIPP has set up a Working Group for updating the scientific input from Switzerland to the European Strategy Group.

  1.
